"The Intercept is an award-winning news organization that covers national security, politics, civil liberties, the environment, international affairs, technology, criminal justice, the media, and more. The Intercept gives its journalists the editorial freedom and legal support they need to pursue investigations that expose corruption and injustice wherever they find it and hold the powerful accountable."

While serving as a photo editing intern at The Intercept (Spring 2017) I worked directly with Senior Photo Editor Chelsea Matiash and Creative Director Philipp Hubert to illustrate stories using mostly wire images. Below is a selection of stories I worked on during my time as an intern.

Down by the Riverside

While researching the wires I found pulitzer prize winning and AP staff photographer, Rodrigo Abd's, collection of work documenting life at the U.S. and Mexico border in the Spring of 2017. The images ran as a photo essay accompanied by text from Intercept Reporter Ryan Devereaux.

The SIDtoday Files

"SIDtoday is the internal newsletter for the NSA’s most important division, the Signals Intelligence Directorate. After editorial review, The Intercept is releasing nine years’ worth of newsletters in batches, starting with 2003. The agency’s spies explain a surprising amount about what they were doing, how they were doing it, and why."

For the Apr 24 2017 update I chose the visuals for the four featured articles that accompanied the released files.

Every day The Intercept posts an image from one of their articles featured in the current week. Working along with Senior Photo Editor Chelsea Matiash I would intermittently choose the image for the daily post as well as draft the accompanying caption.

On Site Photo Editing - Northside Festival

"Northside Innovation, the first-ever Northside Report, a groundbreaking and news-making event created in collaboration with The Intercept, a publication of First Look Media, and BuzzFeed News."

Worked on site with photographer Polina Yamshchikov to file images to photo editor Chelsea Matiash to use for online articles and live posting to Instagram during the Northside Festival.
